Education Secretary Michael Gove has outlined what he described as “a formidable reform programme” for schooling.

A new English Baccalaureate certificate will be introduced to combat a “dramatic collapse” in the number of GCSE pupils taking serious academic subjects, the Education Secretary has announced.

Michael Gove says 16 so-called “free schools” will be set up over the next year – “well in excess” of the numbers he hoped for.
